Sequence Alignment Diagram
This diagram is designed to plot genomic sequence alignment by mapping query sequences to target sequences. To use this diagram, the user should have the appropriate data, i.e., start and end coordinate pairs for query and target sequences. Aabel allows mapping query to target sequences by:
- Connecting the start-to-start and end-to-end using color filled areas (see the diagram in the top image below)
- Lines connecting the start-to-start (such as those in the bottom image below), or lines connecting the end-to-end
- Lines connecting the midpoint-to-midpoint
You can explore the data and look into specific regions of sequences using Aabel unique X-zooming feature.

Stepwise X-Zooming Into a Region Data
Using this feature allows walking through a hierarchy of sequences.
- As you X-zoom into a region of data, the data that are outside the zoomed area of the graph will be excluded, and the exclusion is not a visual effect; these data are excluded from the Visualization and Statistics Pipeline.
- You can X-zoom any number of steps and trace back to previous steps; an example of a one-step X-zooming is shown below:
